There is some archeological evidence that indicates creatures of their description did exist, living very solitary lives much like their mountain giant cousins. Fire giant ruins exhibit little evidence of food storage, and myths say that they had little need for sustenance. Further research, of course, would be needed to determine how such a large creature could sustain itself without the standard nutrition most living beings need\u2014it is quite possible some form of elemental magic might be at the source of their ability to survive without food as we know it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fire giants worship fire, and tales from the dwarves hold that fire giants brought fire to their own civilization. This might indicate that fire giants are more civil and intelligent than their cousins, which also aligns with accounts that they avoided association of any kind with them as well.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They have a great resistance to magic and heat, though have a vulnerability to cold.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As best as I can reckon, fire giants had (or have) a lifespan of around 2,000 years. If it strikes a solid object, it suffers an additional 1d6 damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Furnace Heart<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An Antavar carries supernatural fire within its body. Its skin is hot to the touch, its breath carries smoke, and wounds sometimes reveal an ember-like glow beneath its flesh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fire giants are immune to fire damage and suffer no harm from naturally hot environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They also require remarkably little food for creatures of their size. An Antavar can survive for extended periods by consuming stone and absorbing heat from fires, volcanic vents, or other intense sources of heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>First Flame<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once per combat, an Antavar can draw upon the ancient flame burning within it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As an action, the fire giant exhales a wave of primordial flame in a 30\u2019 cone. Creatures within the area suffer 5d6 fire damage, with a successful Dodge save reducing the damage by half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the next 3 rounds, the Antavar&#8217;s melee attacks also inflict +1d6 fire damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is not a spell. Antavar legends claim it is a fragment of the same sacred fire their ancestors carried into the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Heat Shimmer<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The air surrounding an Antavar bends and ripples from the tremendous heat radiating from its body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ranged attacks from more than 30\u2019 away are Difficult when targeting the fire giant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This effect disappears while the Antavar is submerged in water or otherwise prevented from generating its supernatural heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Fire Magic Resistance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fire giants are naturally resistant to magic associated with flame and heat. They take half damage from fire magic, though Furnace Heart normally makes them immune to fire damage, and gain +20% to saves against fire and heat-based magical effects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Cold Weakness<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cold attacks inflict double damage against an Antavar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If a single cold attack inflicts 15 or more damage after AV, Heat Shimmer is suppressed until the beginning of the giant&#8217;s next turn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Antavar Arms<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unlike the more primitive weapons carried by many giant peoples, surviving accounts describe Antavar weapons as carefully forged and maintained. Their ancient association with fire and metalworking may even predate some mortal smithing traditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their weapons are enormous, but Antavar-forged metal and fragments of their ancient equipment can be extremely valuable to smiths and scholars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Treasure<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Wandering Treasure:<\/strong> Ancient coins worth 500 gp, two fire-polished gemstones worth 250 gp each, an ancient Antavar tool worth 250 gp, and an obsidian-and-gold ornament worth 250 gp. <strong>Total Value: 1,500 gp.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Lair Treasure:<\/strong> Ancient coins and precious metals worth 2,000 gp, gemstones worth 1,000 gp, rare metals worth 1,500 gp, ancient Antavar metalwork worth 1,000 gp, and a historically significant Dworven relic associated with the Antavar worth approximately 1,500 gp. <strong>Total Value: approximately 7,000 gp.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fire Giant (Antavar) Lairs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>1d10<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Lair<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>1<\/td><td><strong>Volcanic Cave:<\/strong> Natural tunnels descend toward the mountain&#8217;s heat, with the Antavar dwelling comfortably beside vents that would kill most creatures.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>2<\/td><td><strong>Ancient Forge:<\/strong> An enormous forge complex predating nearby civilizations still functions. Some mechanisms have not been operated for centuries.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>3<\/td><td><strong>Obsidian Tower:<\/strong> A lonely black tower rises from a volcanic landscape, its surfaces polished until they reflect firelight like dark mirrors.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>4<\/td><td><strong>Lava Temple:<\/strong> Stone bridges cross channels of molten rock leading to a shrine containing a flame said to have burned for thousands of years.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>5<\/td><td><strong>Dworven Ruin:<\/strong> The Antavar occupies an ancient site containing evidence of early contact between its people and the dworves. Which people actually constructed it is unclear.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>6<\/td><td><strong>Caldera Home:<\/strong> The giant lives within the crater of a dormant volcano. Hot springs, steam vents, and small lava fissures dot the enormous depression.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>7<\/td><td><strong>Buried Workshop:<\/strong> An ancient Antavar workshop has been covered by centuries of volcanic activity. The current inhabitant has excavated only a fraction of it.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>8<\/td><td><strong>Fire Cavern:<\/strong> Hundreds of natural gas vents burn throughout the cave. The Antavar tends the flames almost like a gardener tending plants.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>9<\/td><td><strong>Ruined Antavar Hall:<\/strong> A colossal structure once housed several fire giants.
