A nygotha is a giant worm creature that lives in underground caverns. Though it can live without water, it tends to prefer larger chambers at least partially filled with water, particularly those containing underground lakes. The one I encountered was 45\u2019 in length and must have weighed over 35 tons. They are predators from the Navirim, though they seem to go through long periods of fasting before experiencing periods of intense hunger. There are no writings of them leaving their underground lairs, so I must assume they do not like daylight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Their slimy skin is incredibly tough, requiring tritium, cold iron, or magical weapons to pierce effectively. Four tentacles extend from the snake-like body, helping drag it along the ground or propel it swiftly through water. These tentacles are also used to seize prey and pull victims toward its massive circular mouth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are weak spots beneath each tentacle where conventional weapons can pierce the creature’s protection. They are difficult to strike, but if you find yourself facing a nygotha without the proper weapon, a difficult target is preferable to hacking uselessly at its hide while waiting to be swallowed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2014Etahn<\/p>\n\n\n\n Fast Healing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The nygotha’s unnatural flesh rapidly repairs itself. At the beginning of each of its turns, it regains 5 HP. Damage caused by tritium or cold iron prevents Fast Healing until the beginning of the nygotha’s following turn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Grab<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n When a Tentacle Slam successfully hits, the nygotha may attempt to Grab the target. The nygotha and defender make an opposed Heroic Action. If the defender loses, they become grappled. A grappled creature must succeed at an opposed Heroic Action during its turn to escape. The nygotha may maintain a grapple with each of its four tentacles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Horrific Appearance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The nygotha’s enormous worm-like body, circular maw, grasping tentacles, and unnatural movements are profoundly disturbing. When a creature first sees a nygotha, it makes the normal 2\/1d12+1 Horror check. Any creature that fails the Horror check is also Nauseated for 1d8 rounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Multiattack<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n A nygotha can make up to four Tentacle Slam attacks each round. It may make a Bite attack against a creature it currently has grappled instead of making one of its Tentacle Slam attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Reach<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The nygotha’s enormous body and long tentacles give its Tentacle Slam attacks a 20\u2019 reach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Resistant<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The nygotha takes half damage from magical area effects and gains +10% to Heroic Actions made to resist single-target spells.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Weak Spots<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The nygotha’s slimy hide is extraordinarily resistant to conventional weapons. Its full AV 10 applies against normal attacks. Tritium and cold iron weapons ignore its natural AV. Beneath each of the nygotha’s four tentacles is a seam of pale, vulnerable flesh. An attacker who knows about these weak spots may specifically target one with a Very Difficult attack roll. A successful attack against a weak spot ignores the nygotha’s AV regardless of the weapon used. <\/strong> The thick, slick hide of a void wyrm retains its incredible resistance even after death. Properly cured sections are prized for reinforcing armor against both physical and magical threats.
