Drekava

A drekava is a small malevolent spirit—some say “demon”—that escaped to our realm to possess and corrupt small creatures.

Drekava cross into this realm from the Navirim. They usually take over the bodies of small animals, transforming them into mockeries of their original form. Once they have taken a form in this world, they revel in causing mischief and harm. They are spiteful and full of anger, no doubt because of their entrapment within the Navirim.

When they take over a host, the body contorts and changes, giving them a grotesque and horrific countenance for such small creatures. Their eyes turn black and shiny, radiating hatred. The elves believe that these creatures cannot be killed, but simply banished back to the Navirim by destroying their animal form in this world.

A drekava distorts its stolen face into a hideous grin that affects any close to it

Any creature engaged with the drekava must succeed on a Spirit check each round or become scared for 1d4 rounds.

Maniacal Laugh
The laugh of a drekava shakes a being to its soul. A drekava can laugh as a Standard or Move action every other round. This is a sonic, mind-affecting fear effect that can be resisted with a successful Spirit check. If the target is scared, the Spirit save becomes difficult. Anyone who fails suffers 1d6 Spirit damage. Creatures who succeed are immune to this specific drekava’s laugh for 24 hours. The laugh can be heard by anyone within 40’. If a creature is deaf or in a magically silenced area, it is not affected by the laugh.

Drekava Vocal Sac (Reagent)

A rare organ that produces the Drekava’s haunting wail. When prepared correctly, it can be used in the creation of magical sound-based traps or fear-inducing devices.
