Phase Cat

A large predatory feline from the Navirim, a phase cat is a fearsome enemy. It attacks with its four bizarre tentacles that writhe out from its shoulders. It is also capable of a bone-crunching bite. Indicative of its Navirite origin, the most unique feature of this creature is its ability to cross at will from our world into the In-Between and back again, in the blink of an eye. Because of this, it is often hard to distinguish where the creature is, and most attacks seem to pass right through it.

They harbor an unmistakable hatred of things that live in Atheles, sometimes killing for the fun of the hunt rather than food or survival. While I bested one of a mating pair with my blade, I can assure you that being their prey is an experience to be avoided by any means. Sometimes it seems I can feel the other still stalking me, watching me from the In-Between…

Phase Cat

A large predatory feline from the Navirim, the phase cat is a fearsome hunter. Four bizarre tentacles writhe from its shoulders, striking prey from a distance before the creature closes in with its powerful jaws. Its most unusual ability is its capacity to slip partially into the In-Between, making its true position difficult to determine.

Phase cats harbor an unmistakable hatred of the living creatures of Atheles and sometimes hunt simply for the pleasure of the kill.

Phasing

A phase cat constantly shifts between Atheles and the In-Between, causing its image to shimmer and making its true location difficult to determine. All attacks against a phase cat are Difficult unless the attacker can perceive its true position through a means other than normal sight. A successful attack disrupts the phase cat’s ability. Until the beginning of the phase cat’s next turn, attacks against it are made normally.

Magic that reveals a creature’s true location can negate Phase, though merely seeing invisible creatures does not.

Ranged Resistance

A phase cat’s ability to shift into the In-Between makes targeted ranged attacks particularly unreliable. Ranged attacks also suffer -10% against the phase cat (on top of the difficult modifier).

Reach

A phase cat’s four shoulder tentacles have 10’ Reach, allowing it to make Tentacle attacks against creatures up to 10’ away.

Multiattack

A phase cat can make up to four Tentacle attacks each round. It may substitute its Bite for one of these attacks.

Darkvision

A phase cat can see normally in extremely dim conditions, requiring only the faintest source of light.
