Elemental Wraith

Elemental wraiths are manifestations of the four basic elements given a crude physical form. Though each shares the same basic nature, its appearance and abilities are determined by the element from which it was formed. Earth wraiths are masses of stone and soil, air wraiths twist like living storms, water wraiths flow and reform around their victims, and fire wraiths burn with an insatiable inner flame.

Element Damage

An elemental wraith’s attacks inflict additional effects determined by its element.

  • Earth: Attacks inflict an additional 1d6 crushing damage.
  • Air: Attacks inflict an additional 1d4 damage and may knock the target backward. The wraith and target make an opposed STR Heroic Action. If the wraith succeeds, the target is knocked back 2d10’.
  • Water: Water forces its way into the victim’s mouth and lungs. The target cannot breathe for 1 round, and all of its actions are Difficult during that round.
  • Fire: Attacks inflict an additional 1d3 fire damage and the target is On Fire.

Elemental Affinity

An elemental wraith is healed by damage from its own element rather than harmed by it.

An elemental wraith takes double damage from its opposing element:

AirEarth

FireWater

Powerless

An elemental wraith has difficulty harming creatures strongly connected to its opposing element. When such a condition exists, the wraith’s attacks against that creature become Difficult.

For example, if a combatant stands knee-deep in flowing water while fighting a Fire Wraith, the Fire Wraith’s attacks against that combatant are Difficult.

Push

Instead of making its normal attacks, an elemental wraith may attempt to violently push a nearby creature.

The wraith and target make an opposed STR Heroic Action. If the wraith succeeds, the target suffers 1d6 damage and is knocked 2d10’ directly away from the wraith.

Envelope

An elemental wraith can attempt to surround and trap an opponent by winning an opposed Grapple Heroic Action.

While Enveloped, the victim is Grappled. At the beginning of each subsequent round, the wraith must win another opposed Grapple Heroic Action to maintain the Envelope.

Each round the victim remains Enveloped, it automatically suffers 1d6 + Element Damage as a free action.

Reagents & Remnants

The remains of an elemental wraith depend upon its elemental affinity.

Elemental Essence (Reagent)
A concentrated residue of elemental energy left behind when a wraith is destroyed. The essence retains the nature of the wraith’s element and can be used in spells, enchantments, and magical items associated with that element.
Value: 50 gp
Harvesting Difficulty: Average

Elemental Core (Remnant)
Occasionally, a destroyed wraith leaves behind a small piece of condensed elemental matter: an impossibly dense stone, a constantly swirling crystal, a sphere of flowing water that never spills, or a coal that never stops burning.
Value: 100 gp
Harvesting Difficulty: Difficult
